The catalogue contains explanatory essays by both artists of their works. Each artist presents a brief summary of the history of surrealism which challenges conventional accounts as well as providing a summary of, or explanation behind, the creation of individual pieces. The whimsical works of Lee-Anne Raymond are counter-balanced by the more confrontational works of Demetrios Vakras. Both artists' works continue the "revolutionary" element that guided surrealism and challenge accepted convention and religion. The exhibition proved itself to be controversial. The owner of the gallery objected to the sentiments behind the works (as expressed in the catalogue) and posted disclaimers which disassociated the gallery from the works exhibited. The catalogue includes 34 illustrations (28 in colour) of the works exhibited in Melbourne in 2009. Querries about the catalogue can be made via email phantast@iamsurreal.com OR contact either artist directly via their email address which can be found on their individual websites. |
